The Bug Chicks
www.thebugchicks.comWHO WE ARE Kristie Reddick, M.S. and Jessica Honaker, M.S. are The Bug Chicks, entomologists from Texas A&M University. We teach about the incredible world of insects, spiders and their relatives and use them as a vehicle to talk about prejudice, racism, educational potential and career options. Our quirky videos and live presentations encourage students to overcome their fears, get into science and explore the natural world. OUR VALUES We're proud to be positive female role models for all genders and ages as scientists, adventurers and best friends. We never promote fear of arthropods and are not interested in the hyper-sexualization of women in media. We want to show kids that women can be multi-dimensional: funny, smart, classy, silly, friendly, brave and everything in-between. WHAT WE'VE DONE Our drive to create fun, accurate science media has led us to work with some of the coolest organizations: the U.S. Forest Service, Norman Borlaug Institute of International Agriculture, and National Ag Science Center to name a few. Our sci-comm articles can be seen on NPR’s Science Friday website, and our TAMU insect videos are teaching the next generation of entomologists and bugdorks. WHERE WE ARE HEADED Ultimately, we want to teach young people on a larger scale - primarily through a family-friendly television show that will highlight the glorious diversity of the arthropod world. We also want to train teachers in refugee camps to use the insects they find in camps as teaching tools. If you give us a kid and a bug we can teach about any subject. If we can train a thousands teachers, we can teach a million students. CONNECT WITH US Are you a company and individual who shares our values? If you are a producer or director who wants to create shows about nature without compromising standards, connect with us here! If you work in international development and have a way to integrate us into your programming, we would love to hear from you!
