Center for Global Health Engagement (CGHE)
www.usuhs.eduA strong link exists between global health engagement and security. Investment in a community’s health infrastructure and capacity to care for its citizens improves the ability of governments to meet the needs of their populations and lessens the chances of insurgency or instability. After 17 years responding to disasters and participating in humanitarian assistance missions, the Center for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance fully embraced this link, evolving into a new entity, the Center for Global Health Engagement (CGHE). Founded in February 2016, the CGHE's mission is to lead, integrate and synchronize Uniformed Services University’s contributions to DoD global health engagement and ultimately, to national security objectives. The center provides a hub for global health engagement thought leadership and knowledge; strategic communications; operational support; training and professional development; research; and assessment, monitoring and evaluation. Since 1999, CGHE, through its predecessor, has engaged over 3,000 government civilian and military officials in more than 50 countries, within every geographic combatant command area of responsibility. CGHE mobilizes valued subject matter expertise in all relevant areas for DoD global health engagement: disaster preparedness, humanitarian assistance, stability operations and security cooperation via capacity-building initiatives.
