Merton was founded at the intersection of private equity and philanthropy and philanthropists can outsource the heavy-lifting of creating significant impact to Merton. Merton is dedicated to “Solving the Giving Pledge Bottleneck.“ Over 230 people have committed to donate a majority of their fortunes by joining The Giving Pledge, yet these historic gifts are not being realized today. If solved, this could represent over $600 billion to finance good. Unfortunately there are not that many nonprofits in the world that can readily take in $200 million to quickly scale their operations. Due to this Merton estimates only about 5% of The Giving Pledge funds can be deployed into non-profits which are ready to quickly scale at these levels. Merton has thus created new approaches to partner with corporations to invest this large philanthropy and solve challenges in a sustainable way.
