Uncertainty about the availability of a stable, adequate workforce is at an all-time high.Florida East Coast Travel Services Inc., a Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association subsidiary, helps to meet the needs of farm and non-farm employers in the United States by providing expertise in processing and transporting temporary workers. FLECTS expanded its operations in Mexico this year by adding an office to handle the increased demand.FLECTS processes guest workers through the U.S. Department of Labor H-2A and H-2B programs. The company handles worker entry requirements and coordinates transportation of those workers to job locations throughout the United States. This year, most FLECTS workers came from Jamaica and Mexico.FLECTS served 305 agricultural employers in 17 states during the past year.Between January 1, 20012, and August 20, 2012, FLECTS processed 4,298 H-2A farm workers, with another 4,000 scheduled to be processed through the end of 2012. These workers harvest a variety of crops, including strawberries,apples, pears and various vegetables. For non-farm jobs, FLECTS this year served 175 employers, primarily for the hospitality and service industries, with some in the nursery and landscape industries.Between January 1, 2012, and August 20, 2012, FLECTS processed 4,854 H-2B workers, with 700 H-2B workers scheduled for processing through the rest of the year.
