www.nwic.gov.inNational Water Informatics Centre was set up by the Government of India on 28th March, 2018 to act as a central repository of updated water data and allied themes. The establishment of centre has been approved by the Cabinet on 06.04.2016 for timely and reliable water resources data acquisition, storage, collation & management and to provide tools for informed decision making for management of water resources of the country. It is created as a subordinate office under Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR and the office is located in New Delhi. Our Vision - "To be a modern, state of art data repository of water resources and allied themes to facilitate informatics based sustainable development and management of water resources of the country." Our Mission - "To provide a single window solution for comprehensive, authoritative and consistent data & information of India's water resources and allied themes in a standard national GIS framework for planning, development and management of water resources in the country." The NWIC manages India WRIS portal (www.indiawris.gov.in) and allows users to Search, Access, Visualize, Understand and Analyse comprehensive and contextual water data for the assessment, monitoring, planning and development of water resources in the context of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). Utilities like Online Web Editor, Data/Report download, Data availability facilitates user to browse through the available data, download the required information and update the state specific data. NWIC is also handling operation & maintenance of WIMS (Water Information Management system), a web enabled water resources data entry system for both surface and ground water resources. The data are being collected through web-based data entry, mobile-app and also in automated method through telemetric sensors. The time-series info available with WIMS is automatically updated on daily basis and disseminated through India-WRIS.
