Local Practice Architecture + Design Ltd. is a regenerative design practice comprised of architects, strategists, artists, sustainability experts, cyclists, apiarists, and relentless optimists all united in the goal of realizing projects that improve the health and resiliency of their local communities. Founded in 2015 through a merger of two architectural practices (each founded in 2009), the firm is privately owned by architects Matthew Woodruff and Michel Labrie and has a staff of 15. Based in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, our focus is on sustainable building design and infrastructure in the public realm. Projects include schools, daycares, park buildings, affordable housing, water reservoirs and treatment plants, research laboratories, and collaborative hubs and hybrids of all kinds seeking new models for holistic sustainability. We offer a full range of architectural, project definition, and feasibility services integrated with our in-house green building expertise on Living Building, Envision, Passive House, LEED, material and life cycle analysis, energy modelling, daylight studies, and BIM modelling. Our clients are forward thinking government bodies, public institutions, and organizations across Western Canada who are committed to positive change in the build environment.
