The Department of Chemistry at the University of Memphis offers Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (A.C.S. Certified), Master of Science, Doctor of Philosophy. The M.S. and Ph.D. degrees have concentrations in Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physical Chemistry. The department has research groups that are working on: • Fuel cell membranes and drug delivery, • Photochromic materials, • Design and engineering of artificial photosynthesis and hydrogen production from water, • New catalysts for organic chemistry reactions, • Computational structural biology and rational ligand design, • Surface chemistry and reaction dynamics, • Computational macromolecular modeling, gene delivery, and transport in microfluidic devices, • High throughput screening, enzymology, • Novel nanomaterials for cancer detection and treatment, • Microfabrication, microfluidics, chemistry and chemical kinetics of drinking water, and • Developing new technologies technologies for analysis of trace compounds in environmental samples such as drinking water and plant materials.
