STEM for Her

www.stemforher.org

The STEM for Her Mission is to promote education to create awareness, excitement, and opportunities among girls and young women to launch successful STEM-related careers. Through direct exposure to hands-on experiences, mentors and role models and other programs, STEM for Her enables girls and young women to envision the path to an education and a career in STEM. We develop our own programs and partner with girl leaders, community organizations and corporations with a strong focus on the underserved populations in the Washington, DC Metro Area. Women and girls are vastly underrepresented in STEM fields despite their talent and potential to be successful in these areas. While women make up more than half the population, they account for only 24 percent of the STEM workforce. Influential organizations, like STEM for Her, are striving to bridge the gender gap to create a stronger and more globally competitive and productive workforce. By providing scholarships, mentoring, tools, speakers, and supporting school-sponsored and community-based programs, STEM for Her is able to foster technology interest in girls and young women ages 12-25. Financial support is also provided to sponsor field trips, assist with program and curriculum development, and contribute program resources for Career Days in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. to serve economically and socially disadvantaged girls. Through STEM for Her’s efforts, thousands of girls and women in the metropolitan D.C. area have learned about the exciting opportunities available to them in STEM-related careers.
