Relatively stable, predictable energy generation sources are a thing of the past. The current grid was not designed to handle the large amounts of variable energy--like wind and solar--needed to protect our planet and meet ambitious state and federal policy goals for renewable generation. At UniGen Resources, we’re forging a new path to reliably integrate large amounts of renewable energy into the electrical grid by disaggregating the seemingly intractable grid-level problem into smaller, more manageable problems. UniGen Resources couples a control system with innovative business arrangements that pair one renewable resource to one firming resource (such as a natural gas plant or energy storage system), distributing flexible hybrid power plants around the grid. Our solution automatically compensates for schedule misses in real time and allows renewable generation to be predictably scheduled in the Day Ahead Market.
