History of Bandos: It is believed that people lived on Bandos as early as 1603 AD. According to French writer Pyrad De Laval who came to Maldives on 2nd July 1602. He learned Dhivehi from the people who lived in Bandos. This island also used to be a recreational stop to the royal family when Maldives was ruled as a Monarchy. During those days, drinking water was also carried from Bandos to the nobility class families of the capital island Male'. Traditional medical practitioner Kalaafaanu lived here as well. The channel located in between Bandos and Kuda Bandos was used by ships as a harbor and was a key area for anchorage. Foreign vessels on business also used the harbor. There was rehabilitation center for delinquent youth from Male' built here at the time when Mr. Ibrahim Nasir was prime minister. Bandos became a tourist resort on 10th December 1972 with 28 rooms and was the second resort to be opened in Maldives.
