CSI was founded to deliver greater value to investors in university and federally funded IP. Since the Bayh Dole act every research institution in the country has developed its own tools and culture around the commercialization of research. However, commercialization is often seen as the antithesis of universities and basic research institutions. As a result commercialization programs have often been developed with little input from private sector funding that would transition IP from research to consumer product. CSI examines modern investment theories and practices in an attempt to develop novel approaches to investing in the commercialization of basic research.
