Pride News Magazine, Canada's Leading Caribbean and African News Magazine, has been established since January, 1983. Pride News Magazine, reflecting the ambitions, aspirations, accomplishments and achievements of the African & Caribbean Canadian community, is now a daily online publication! Pride's Mission Statement: To act as a catalyst for the advancement, empowerment and happiness of peoples of African and Caribbean Heritage. Pride attributes its success to the positive influence it has had, and continues to exert on the African & Caribbean Canadian communities it serves in Ontario. In 1985, Pride founded, and organizes annually, the African-Canadian Achievement Awards, which recognizes and honours African-Canadians who have excelled in 15 areas of endeavours. Some outstanding Canadians Pride has honoured include, Hon. Lincoln Alexander, Salome Bey, Hon. Alvin Curling, Rosemary Brown, Austin Clarke, Multiculturalism Minister Dr. Hedy Fry, Hon. Jean Augustine, MP, Canadian Chief Justice Julius Isaac, Dr. Howard McCurdy, and scores more. Through the African-Canadian Achievement Awards, Pride has inspired the African-Canadian community to accomplish and excel in all areas of life and has encouraged and fostered a sense of pride in the community. It has also provided numerous role models, who serve as sterling examples for the youth in the community to emulate.
