Parkway Auto Recyclers has been a progressive force for more than 40 years Parkway Auto Recyclers likes to strike a balance, while it’s still family run it’s not your classic mom and pop operation. The Kitchener, ON facility founded by Sam and John Shantz in 1963, now operated by Sam’s son-in-law Vic Generoux and his two sons Trevor and Troy has changed a lot over the years. “By the time my uncle passed on well into his 90’s he couldn’t even recognize the business because it had changed so much,” Trevor says. When times changed, Parkway Auto Recyclers has always been able to change with them. They now currently employ a state of the art computerized inventory management system and have all their parts linked up with shops from all across North America. Thanks in large part to that, the 6.5 acre facility currently processes between 800 – 1200 vehicles each year. Another thing Parkway had always realized was the need to stay progressive and connect with the different industry associations in order to improve their business by learning from others. They are currently involved with many major auto recycling associations such as OARA and the ARA, helping to add to the growing discussion on how to improve the industry. “No one person knows everything,” Trevor says. “You have to communicate with everybody in your industry to really find out what’s going on.” Parkway is also well known for their customer service, offering parts delivery throughout Southern Ontario. Trevor says he is extremely proud of Parkway’s dedicated staff of 13 and considers the constantly changing nature of the business as one of the things he enjoys most. “No two days are the same. You walk in and you never know what you’re going to get,” he says. “There’s competition, there’s camaraderie. It’s fun and exciting.” Article - October 2, 2006Canadian Recyclers Annual Guide
