The Mission of MILPA (Motivating Individual Leadership for Public Advancement) is to end mass incarceration, strengthen families, and build healthy communities. We believe in applying cultural and inter-generational messaging to produce inner, social, community, and institutional change. Our approach is grounded in La Cultura Cura (culture cures), critical consciousness, oral tradition, and cultural organizing. MILPA incubates inter-generational leadership through culturally relevant professional development, racial equity training and technical assistance towards developing strategic initiatives. Our work takes on the forms of youth rites of passage and resident empowerment programs, racial justice capacity building, towards policy and systems change advocacy while promoting civic engagement.
