H&L et Filles currently produces a line of wines named Boucaner. Boucaner Red is a red wine made with grapes from the Pacific Northwest (OR Willamette Pinot Noir and WA Syrah), modeled on a style from France’s Rhône region. Boucaner (H&L) created this blend with noted Oregon winemaker, Lynn Penner-Ash. This medium bodied, garnet colored wine presents dense fruit flavors of ripe blackberries and summer fruit compote upon entry. These flavors give way to vanilla and rich baking spices which lead into the structured and elegant finish. Boucaner Gris: The well-balanced palate begins with a round mouthfeel and lingers with a refreshing acidity in the finish bringing out enticing flavors of juicy citrus, lemon chiffon, dry apricot and pear. Because sometimes Sauvignon Blanc is just too light and acidic, while chardonnay is too rich and heavy. Between the two is a great place to be. “So what, another wine,” you are probably thinking. Well this wine has a mission behind it. 12 years ago Becker Hall and Rene Louapre also founded Hogs for the Cause (www.hogsforthecause.org), a BBQ and music festival that attracts 25,000 people to New Orleans every spring and which has become the largest provider of pediatric brain cancer outreach services in the country. Hogs has built a multi million dollar family housing center at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans and will be building one at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Hogs has hospital partners around the country and have given grants to over 1,500 families around the country. Boucaner supports Hogs for the Cause by donating $0.50/bottle back to the Hogs cause.
