AMG ENERGIA s.p.a. is a local energy utility based in Sicily. Its mission is the client satisfaction and the sustainable development through the rational use of energy and the utilisation of the Mediterranean renewable energy sources as public service. Main activities are: distribution of natural gas (125.000 users; 700 km gas pipeline), public lighting (50.000 lights), energy engineering, energy services for private users and public administrations (electric and heating facility management, micro-CHP, photovoltaic and solar thermal systems). AMG ENERGIA is also listed in the European Database of ESCO (Energy Service Company). In 2002 AMG ENERGIA has performed a turnover of 50 MEuro. Its RTD Unit has developed several innovative projects in RUE and RES sectors within European (5th FP, Altener) and Ministerial Programmes. The initiative “Energy Service with Solar-Methane Systems”, has been awarded by European Commission (Renewable Energy Partnership, 2001) and it is considered as “best practice” by UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme, 2002).
