The South Dakota Art Museum is the state's artistic gem. The museum is the state's artistic center leading in preservation practices, museum standards and art education. The Museum curates 17 new exhibits each year, featuring South Dakota, regional, national and international artists. Our staff utilizes Visual Thinking Strategies, a visual arts program that uses art to teach thinking, communication skills and visual literacy, in our educational programming. The SDAM prides itself on living our mission everyday and caring for our state's artistic treasures. Our galleries feature Native American art, Harvey Dunn originals, Marghab Linens and a dynamic exhibit schedule of regional and national artists. The Museum Store features jewelry, original art, prints, pottery, beads, scarves and more from all over the world. Admission is free! The South Dakota Art Museum was named "The 25 Best American Galleries and Museums" and the "Best in South Dakota" by the American Art Awards, (2016, 2017).
