Narrative Notion
www.narrativenotion.comI am a Business Intelligence Advisor with nearly 30 years of experience. I develop data-centric, narrative-driven growth strategies. Here is my (short) story: The things we enjoy doing professionally often harken back to childhood. For me, those are mysteries and stories. I love a good mystery to solve and a good story to tell. I have read the classics as well as modern masters. My favorite though, by any measure, remains Sherlock Holmes, the data-focused detective (“Data! Data! Data!” he cried impatiently. “I can't make bricks without clay.”). My career encompass data in various capacities from IT Consultant to Data Analyst to Senior Data Architect to Business Intelligence Advisor. In addition, I am also a journalist, essayist, flash fiction writer, and poet. Most of my writings are mystery-centric or deal with uncovering and rationally interpreting the mysterious. I have intensely and intently studied storytelling from novel writing to film and TV to comics to interactive storytelling. Data is the smallest building block of any story, the whats, whys, whens, and hows. Any collection of data is a story waiting to be told. But those stories are not always evident. Data needs to be discovered, uncovered, structured, normalized. It needs to be explored and put into context. Done skillfully stories emerge; whats and whys and hows are discovered; the plot thickens, and the next chapters can be plotted. I am your Holmes, turning Data! Data! Data! into coherent narratives of past and present as well as plotting the next chapters of possibility, productivity, reliability, and ingenuity.
