I4 Competition
www.i4competition.caWe are a group of engineering students at the University of Waterloo studying Management Engineering. The team is focused on data analytics in situations where the Internet of Things (IoT) is prevalent, or will be prevalent, and uses the Industry 4.0 context as the learning platform. The same problems exist in healthcare, law enforcement, and almost any situation when you look closely. As a part of this team, we are developing a high school virtual competition using the web, focusing on Management Engineering concepts – process and flow analysis, and turning data into information. Our current plan is for the competition to be held in January, 2019. This competition will involve teams of 3-5 students, and take them through part of the production process of a Remote Control Car – analyzing part of the production line. Teams will be provided visuals (video, blueprint), data from the line, and will be asked to use an engineering approach to analyzing the process, layout, and efficiency. They will then prepare a short report with their analysis and a PowerPoint presentation with their recommendations for how the plant management can improve the area, e.g., double the production rate within the given constraints.
