More and different economic analysis is essential for electricity digitalization to meet its potential. The path forward for electricity digitalization that integrates market design, regulatory policy, new technologies, and grid architecture requires economic analysis that uses transaction cost, institutional, and organizational economics to analyze the effects of technological and regulatory change. It also requires communicating those ideas and the academic research using them to policy makers and industry in a compelling and accessible way.
