AEGIS was founded in 1994 by a group of established Guardianship Organisations and UK boarding schools that felt the need to promote universally high standards of guardianship for overseas students studying in the UK. The core work of AEGIS is the accreditation of Guardianship Organisations through a rigorous programme of inspections led by experienced school inspectors. The Child/Student VisaGuidance notes for compliance clearly requires, under Care arrangements: “Suitable arrangements for any children for their travel to the UK, reception at port and living arrangements while in the UK.” This statement is very much in tune with the aims of AEGIS: “To promote the safety, welfare and education in the United Kingdom of international students aged 18 or under.”
